Upcoming Board Elections
On February 19, 2020 voting for candidates in the election of Beehive Board of Directors will open and at that time we will send additional information, including the ballots. The following are running: Grant Johnson (incumbent) and Kirk Gifford; and Bonnie Peterson (incumbent) and Kaylene Stocking. Here is some information about them:
Grant Johnson (Incumbent)
Grant and his wife Linda are the parents of five children and twenty grandchildren. For over 26 years, he was employed as an administrator in the Human Resources Office at BYU-Idaho/Ricks College; interviewing prospective employees for campus employment, coordinating salary research, training and guiding employees in financial planning. He was also Student Employment Director, coordinating company visits and supervising students on internship/employment expeditions. He retired from BYU-I in 2010.
Grant earned his associate’s degree from Ricks College, his bachelor’s degree in Business Management from BYU, and his MBA in Banking and Finance from USU. He was a member of the Board of the Madison Economic Development Corporation, and was also a member of the Upper Valley United Way Board. Grant and Linda have served as co-chair on the Tree and Beautification Committee in Sugar City.
Grant has been actively engaged in the credit union movement for several years, including serving on the Board of Directors for Beehive. After serving on the Board, Grant resigned from his position so he and his wife could serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Since returning from their mission, Grant has been serving on Beehive’s Board as treasurer and would like to have the opportunity of continuing that service to our members in the Rexburg/Rigby/Idaho Falls area.
Kirk was raised in Bountiful, Utah and came to Rexburg in 1996 to teach economics at Ricks College. He and his wife, Holley, raised their three sons Scott, Ryan, and Jacob here in Southeast Idaho and recently welcomed their first grandson to the family. His daughter-in-law, Cassi, is a Rexburg native and had a wonderful experience working for Beehive Credit Union after her college graduation. Kirk and his family love fly fishing, biking, hiking, and skiing in this beautiful area and are grateful to call Rexburg their home.
Kirk graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in economics and then worked in the banking industry and as a stock broker before attending graduate school. He received his master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Washington State University in 1996. He has taught at BYU-Idaho for 21 years and served as chair of the economics department, and as the associate dean and dean of the College of Business and Communication. In addition, he operated a successful forensic economic consulting practice for many years.
Kirk has served in many leadership capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including bishop, stake president, and President of the Colorado Denver South Mission from 2016-2019. Since moving to Rexburg, Kirk has been a member of Beehive and appreciates the professional and friendly service he and his family have received over the years. He looks forward to the opportunity to serve the community and the Credit Union as a member of the Board.
Bonnie Peterson (Incumbent)
Bonnie and her husband, Mike, consider themselves “adopted” natives of Jefferson County for 44 years. They have four children and 16 grandchildren. Bonnie likes to play the piano, golf, snow ski, garden, and anything else outdoors. She worked with the Office of the President at Ricks College for seven years. Following her time at Ricks, Bonnie and her husband operated two successful furniture stores in Rexburg and Idaho Falls for 25 years. Her financial-savvy, leadership, and organizational skills were great assets to the family-run businesses. She states that one of the best additions to Rigby is the arrival of Beehive Federal Credit Union, of which she has been a member for over 30 years. Why Beehive? “Beehive Federal Credit Union offers benefits and services which can impact members’ lives in diverse ways not available or accessible at other financial institutions. My experience with Beehive as both a consumer and business owner has been a successful partnership. After serving on the Board for three years, I more fully understand that the staff, administrative team, and Board are actively finding new ways to serve each and every Beehive Credit Union member in personal and professional ways – they truly have each member’s best interest in mind. It is a pleasure to serve and a challenge to find new ways to do so.”
Kaylene lives in Rigby with her husband, Randy. Between the two of them, they have six children. Kaylene graduated from BYU-Idaho with a bachelor’s degree in Family Consumer Science Education. This is her thirteenth-year teaching at the middle school and high school level in Idaho. As part of her career, Kaylene has been a Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Advisor organizing fundraisers, advising students on projects and traveling with students to competitions on the district, state and national level. She has also been a mentor teacher for those new to the profession, PLC lead, and a member of the building academic team. Since 2014 Kaylene has served as a member of the Idaho Association of Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences (IATFACS) board holding position as Region 6 Representative, President-Elect, President, and current Past-President. She has also served frequently with the youth at church in Primary and Young Women’s organizations.
